Dog Eat Dog: Jiji Acquires Tonaton

A couple of weeks ago, Tonaton, a Ghanaian online classifieds company, sent out an email that they were transferring the data of their users to a company who are the owners of Jiji (another online classified site).

There had been no official confirmation on if this was the result of a buyout.

Well, this week, it was officially confirmed that Jiji had acquired Tonaton for an undisclosed amount of money.

Tonaton has been operating for close to 9 years in Ghana. There’s no official background on why the company sold but hopefully, the story will be told one day

Now onto to the news for the week:

Meta is reportedly shutting down its Express Wi-Fi program after 5 years in operation. The Express Wi-Fi program launched in 2016 and was operating in 30 countries including Ghana

Jumia, the popular e-commerce platform, has partnered with LocQar, a smart locker company, to bring online deliveries closer to its consumers in Ghana.

The Ghana Card, the National Identity Card will from today now be recognised as an e-passport in 44,000 airports globally.
