Is The E-Levy Slowing Down Mobile Money Transactions?
According to the Bank Of Ghana, the value of mobile money transactions in April reduced by 3% from GH¢90.5 billion in March to GH¢87.7 billion.
On May 1st, the current administration passed the controversial E-Levy bill which placed a 1.5% tax on mobile money transactions. This has been some public backlash and some fear that the bill will have an effect on mobile money transactions in the future.
Right now, it’s too early to tell but could the early April figures give an indication of what’s to come in the future?
It remains to be seen.
We’ll keep an eye on the May numbers when they become available.
