Ghana's Skytrain Project Falls Down Back To Earth
There was already skepticism on if the government would be able to complete the project and that was realized this week when the Ghana Ministry of Railways officially shelved the “Skytrain” project.
The Skytrain project was to build a fully automated and highly efficient, and public mass transit system that would use air propulsion technology to drive lightweight, high passenger volume vehicles.
The estimated cost of the project was valued at $2.6 billion.
In the end, the project was deemed too expensive to continue and has been ultimately shelved.
The Skytrain project will join a long list of failed mass transportation projects including a 2010 Monorail project which never took off and the most recent Rapid Bus Transport system.
Maybe the pilot testing of mass transportation by Treepz will be successful and help with public transportation in Accra.
