Vodafone Ghana Finally Sold To Telecel Group

Starlink will launch in Kenya and Glovo launches its local programme

What’s happened this Week:

  • Starlink will debut in Kenya in Q2 of 2023

  • Uber brings back 25% commission in Tanzania

  • and more!

This week, Vodafone Ghana finally sold to its new owners.

The Telecel group’s proposal to purchase Vodafone Ghana was this week approved by Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA). Telecel will now own 70% of Vodafone while the Ghana Government will retain 30%.

So what happens now?

It’s not too clear but there have been reports that Telecel will offload some cell towers to help fund the purchase of its acquisition. As far as local service, no one knows what it plans. There was an earlier report about plans for a Vodafone - AirtelTigo merger but that hasn’t come to fruition yet. Maybe the new owners might green light that project.

Check out our timeline of the Vodafone sage which started sometimes in 2019
